Tuesday

We've had some delicious rain over the past couple of days, so I've been more inclined to work inside.  I'm putting the finishing touches on Rusty Leaves, as it needs to be delivered tomorrow to our church for the semi-annual Festival of the Arts Gallery.

I decided to hang it from a portion of rusted tin that one of my church friends gave me.  That is, of course easier said than done!  Here it is on my design wall:

I was auditioning hanging 'threads': I have a lot of silk embroidery thread and thought that might do the trick.  After I snapped that picture, I dyed some silk ribbon in rusty tones, and I also threw some sissal in the dye bath.  I've decided on the silk ribbon....it's an interesting contrast to the canvas and rusted tin.  For some reason the leaves appear white in this photo, but they are actually gold...go figure!  Here's a detail shot:

I added just the slightest bit of machine stitching, and I like what it did!

Just as Barker and I were heading out the door for our walk this morning, it began to pour down in buckets once again.  After about fifteen minutes and a quick consult with the weather radar, we thought we had waited out the rain, but then it started coming down again when we were a ways down the street.  Fortunately I had stopped to chat with one of our neighbors, and he was kind enough to lend us his umbrella, so we were able to enjoy the golf course. I just love these big old pines and their wonderful lichen:

and of course it goes without saying, that I am madly in love with this guy!

PEACE

What a great idea to use this metal thing as an armature! What about wrapping more of the thread around it? It would be easier to put it up on the wall then.

That bit of stitching you did is inspired. Really gives it a finished look.

When I do a hanging mechanism like this, I find it helps to use one or two beads to stabilize the thread at the top of the quilt.

Judy, the leaves are beautiful and I love how you hung it. The lichen on the trees makes me homesick! Ah Barker, you handsome fellow. Enjoy the day.
