and More Herons!

I've been playing around with a new Thermofax screen and yes, it's of another heron!  This time I'm using thickened dyes in the screen, which makes this an entirely new rodeo for me!  There's the batching element (leaving the thickened dyes at 70 degrees F for 24 hours) to contend with when one uses dyes as opposed to textile paints.  I'm rather fond of dyes and feel more comfortable with them, as opposed to paints, but now the rules are totally different in this game!  Today I added another element to this piece (which had previously been all blue gradations): Caran D'Ache water-soluble wax pastels.

MMMMMMM!

This is just a practice piece and I was simply playing around to see what would happen, but I'm loving the results already!  The herons that I screened with the watersoluble crayons are those on the right which appear green, yellow and orange.  Having seen this on one of Jane Dunnewold's dvds, I decided to give it a try.  All you do is rub the crayons on the screen (in my case I was using the same Thermofax screen of the heron) and then you screen the image onto the fabric with a gel medium.  And there you have it!  I love this technique!  I will probably play a bit more tomorrow and then get down to some serious business!

PEACE

I'm loving the sound of this process. And you have a box of 30 crayons! I have a selection of about 10 and just love them to pieces. Maybe if I read what you did a few more times I might get the hang of it. I want to do it too. OOXX

Ok Judy, now I am feeling guilty that I haven't started anything so I need to get to work!!! Love the progression of the heron work, it will be spectacular by the time we get back to SA. I am going to do a few of my pieces over before I move on to anything new.
