Tests and Results

A design idea had been slowly creeping around in my head last week, and I finally decided to do something about it on Thursday.  I sketched the image I wanted to use and then got busy mixing some test samples of dyes.  Friday morning I took the little snippets of silk out of their baggies, rinsed them - careful to keep them apart from one another but with their respective recipes.

They all got neatly snugged away in my dye notebook and we ran off to Atlanta to spend the weekend.

When we got home on Sunday afternoon, the silks that I had slathered with potato dextrin before we left on Friday were ready for their first application of dye.

Here they are after the rinse out:

I love the dye recipe I chose....and I love potato dextrin!

Last night I created a silk screen from the sketches I had made, and this morning I applied thickened dyes to the silks using the screen, let them batch, and voila!

Here's a little Leprechaun I came across the other day

cute as can be, huh?  I think I'm needing another Charlie fix!

and here's one more Leprechaun - but he forgot to wear any green!

I hope you all are well.  Your most thoughtful comments from my last post were all so appreciated!  Thank you for taking the time to respond.

PEACE

Hibiscus? Oh, those eyes (Charlie & Barker's), they just make my heart melt. Now, back to the fabric. I love the textural background from the dextrin. You are amazing!

Charlie is getting so big! Love those big eyes. And the chartreuse striped shirt is very fetching.
