Judy in the Dyes: Preparing to Bomb

The Southeast Fiber Arts Alliance, of which I am a member, is hosting a Yarn Bombing on June 11th, and I am busily knitting away on my 'bomb'. Yarn bombing, in case you don't know, is a form of guerrilla knitting or knit graffiti, where knitted segments are attached to outdoor items such as trees, lamp posts, park benches, whatever. Since June 11th is World Wide Knit in Public Day, it seems like the perfect day to do some (yarn) bombing in downtown Atlanta, don't you think? You can read more about it here. My friend Diane sent me this article about yarn bombing from the Dallas Morning News. She and Jean, another friend, took part in a yarn bombing earlier this year in Austin, their hometown. So I'm pretty excited about a local bombing!

I started my bomb on Saturday, and here's how it looks right now

Although the knitting may seem monotonous (the basic stockinette stitch) I decided this would be the perfect time to learn how to purl continentally. Youtube, as Dr Sock often says, is the knitters best friend, and I have to agree. If I don't understand how to do a stitch that is called for in a pattern, I simply Google it and then find a Youtube demo. It's great! So that is how I learned to purl continentally. Last winter, when I was knitting those stranded mittens, I learned to knit continentally, and found that it wasn't difficult at all, and was much faster than my old 'throwing' method of knitting. I was determined to learn to purl that way as well. So I've found the right time....and it isn't that difficult!

Yesterday we enjoyed a lovely lunch out at Empire State South with Charlie and his parents AND C's cousins, who also happen to be Charlie's Mom's Godparents. (I'm not sure if that makes them Charlie's Great Godparents, or not, but they sure are special people!) Charlie behaved like the little prince that he has become, and even took a little nap in his Daddy's arms

Oh well, here he's not napping, he's inspecting my iPhone case, which I'll have to admit is a bit colorful!

We had a great time, but were totally exhausted by the end of the day, as you can clearly see!
