GA Eucalyptus meets the TX Star

There is a cute little park 

in a neighborhood

near our condo in Atlanta.

It has three beautiful Eucalyptus trees.

We dropped by there a few weeks ago,

and I was lucky to find a 

couple of branches laying on the ground.

(Apparently it had recently been pruned,

and these branches didn't make it into the clean-up bag.)

So, I did a bit of tidying up myself,

and brought those branches home with me!

Before I bought a Eucalyptus tree of my own,

I wanted to see how the one and only

species that grows here in northeast GA

would respond to eco dyeing.

I used a piece of silk upon which I had already eco-dyed

a Texas Star Hibiscus,

which is the lavender-blue flower you see above.

The bits of orangey-red are the Euca.

I'm so thrilled that it actually worked!

I'm not sure what the other dark brown spots are -

don't recall if they were already there or not,

but you can definitely see the Euca leaves in this shot.

We did purchase a Cotinus last Fall,

and have babied it all winter,

watering it weekly if we had no rain.

I'm thrilled to see little red 'budlets' 

appearing on its branches!

So, now I will plant a Euca,

when I find the right, protected spot

in my garden.
