Sassafras on Silk

I'm stitching away on my Sassafras leaves.
These are detail shots of the big piece
that has me occupied right now.

I've found that using a 60 Universal needle
is the ticket on this piece of silk...
even with rayon threads
that call for a 90/14 topstitch needle.
Those needles leave huge holes,
due to both their size and that of their eye,
but the 60 Universal is lots nicer,
and my threads are not shredding.

I'd be interested to hear what you prefer
when stitching with rayon threads on silk....
if you do!

thanks for stopping by!

peace to you!

Beautiful details. The last time I stitched on silk, I used Superiors Kimono silk thread and Organ Titanium universal needles, I think. I know the needles were Titanium.

Interesting! I threw my rayon threads across the room in frustration 2 weeks ago. Ms. Kitty thought it was a new game. LOL! I'll have to get some 60s and give it a try. I do love those leaves. The puff ball mushrooms yesterday made me giggle. (Google was stuborn and wouldn't let me comment.) We have those down at the river. In the fall they dry and explode when touched. I know, I should put a paper bag over it and catch the spores to see if they make a unique dye - one day! :)

I love the subtle glow of the first leaf. I use rayon threads a lot and always use Schmetz Universal 65/9 and have never had any problems with threads shredding.

ohhh these are interesting! I've been slowly switching my rayons to poly only because they are so much a pain - my shiney poly's don't give me half as much a headache. Off the Wall Friday is open on my blog if you care to link up and join in!
