Dyeing Days

I can't seem to get enough of Shibori, so I hope you're not growing tired of seeing the results of my playtime. Yesterday afternoon I thought I'd go out to the dye studio for 'just a little while' and wrap up a few silk scarves that I'd put a layer of dye on last weekend. Well, that little while ended up being about four hours. Once I got the scarves wrapped, I spotted some lengths of cotton that could use some wrapping, so I felt compelled. And then of course, I couldn't just leave them to dye for another day, so I mixed up the dye pot, stuck them in and could barely wait for the results.

I'm bored with photographing my scarves on my model. Tell me what you think: do you like them better this way, or on the model?

C and I have just completed listening to "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson, a Swedish writer. Apparently when it was first released in Sweden it was titled "Men Who Hate Women". I'm not sure why the title was changed for its release here in the States. I had a love-hate relationship with this book, but found it addicting, and was sad to learn that Larsson, the author, has passed away, but there is a sequel to the book! I've also just finished reading "Living Buddha, Living Christ" by Thich Nhat Hanh, and I'm almost through with "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett, a marvelous page-turner. What are you reading? Don't be shy, please speak up! We saw "A Serious Man", the new Coen brothers movie, the other day........it is unlike any other they have done, and that is all I'm saying at this point!

We're enjoying more lovely weather with sunny skies and afternoon temps climbing into the 60s.
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

PEACE

What am I reading? An article in the New Yorker about a man who is on death row for setting fire to his house and murdering his children. I think he is innocent but I'm afraid they're going to execute him!

I agree with Eva! I just can't find time to read anymore. I like the scarves puddled - they look so yummy.

The scarves look great. I like them off the model for their visual impact (but if you were selling them online, I'd say do from several perspectives).

I just finished Straight Man by Richard Russo. It's a great piece of fiction that's centers around the trials and frustrations (and stupidity) of University faculty and administration. Since I fall into that category, I found it hilarious. I've been thinking the Living Buddha, Living Christ title looked interesting...

The scarves are sooo beautiful and I like them puddled as Gerrie said. Your colour sense is great. I loved The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and the following one (name escapes me), and the third and last is now out in the shops. Such a shame Stieg Larsson passed away, I hope he had some idea of how successful his books would be. I'm finding it difficult to read this year (usually 4 or 5 books a week) but my life is so busy I'm lucky if I manage an article in a gardening magazine before I fall asleep. I read a lot of blogs and find treasures daily.

You can see the scarves better close up like this.

The Help is on my 'to read' list but I'm still addicted to "Heat" about working in Molto Mario's kitchen. Great book!

And I think the Coen Brothers are too weird, although this sounds like a movie I should see. The only one of theirs I liked was "Fargo."

Off to open studios...

Beautiful, beautiful scarves! I think I prefer the photos with your model better though. Or one of each. The model really helps visual how the scarf will look when worn.

I just saw the movie of "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" at an EU film festival here! It should open here in March. If you liked the book, don't miss the movie! I'm getting ready to read his third (and last, alas) but have to finish the 600-page Wolf Hall first.
Love to you and C.
