Like a Bird on a Vine

Barker had us up early again this morning: GROAN! But in retrospect, it was once again a very good thing, as it gave me time to figure out how I was going to do the background of the upper portion of my bird on the vine. I decided that a brick wall was only fitting and proper. While I like the printed piece very much, I'm now thinking that (1) the bird should be larger and (2) the upper bird against the brick wall should be white or at least striated. He is almost totally lost in the brick work. Your comments, please!

It's been a beautiful day here! We drove home from the condo after a leisurely lunch, visited with my Mom, and then I spent time in both the studio and the garden.

Life is good here and I hope it is in your corner of the world as well!

PEACE

I agree with you on both counts- bigger, and finding a way to make the upper bird visible. I had to enlarge the photo to see him at all!

Yep, I agree also. I do like the brick wall. I picked some lily of the valley for you today. Can you smell it?;-)

In a lino-cut, it means to cut the whole thing anew to make the lower bird larger. But the upper bird can be changed into a light one without much effort. I could live with the size of the dark one. The complete look is beautiful, though.

I love your birds. The colors are perhaps a bit too much yellow and petrol (blue) for my taste.
Sorry =(

Life is good here too. Maria is participating in a female choir in Laholm and they are having a concert together with a men's choir in Laholms high school this afternoon. So I'm going there to listen and maybe even sing along ;-)

Love your lino cut design Judy, the brick wall looks great. I don't mind the size of the birds but agree the top one needs to contrast more.

first I love the design and the way you've carved in two blocks on one. very strong.
Yes. contrast. here's what I'd do. I'd do one print in a lighter color and mark the registation, then, I'd clean the block, and with a foam brush apply another color to the bird only and print it again on top of the first. It will take some experimentation to get the right colors, so they blend, and so the bird becomes dominant. but it will look fabulous and even more interesting and complex.(you could experiment by using 3 colors, brick wall, vine, and bird) Keep us posted!

I love the background behind the bird in the lower portion. I presume this is as a result of the lino cut.

Love Jane's suggestions!! Birdie does need some texture but I lvoe the different color idea!!! have you ever stamped with water color crayons??? You draw right on the stamp with the crayons and then lightly spritz the stamp and then apply the misted crayoned stamp to fabric or paper!! Too much fun!!!
Glad that you ahd a great weekend!
hugs!
