Hanging Rusty Leaves

Several of my blog friends emailed me to suggest methods for hanging Rusty Leaves, so I thought I'd let you know how it all finally came together.  Actually, I tackled it immediately after I had finished blogging about it, so by the time the first emails came in, it was a fait accompli.  But thanks for your suggestions, and I will store them for future use.  When I chose to use the rusted tin as the hanging device, I realized that it was not going to be strong enough to hold even that small piece of fabric without some sort of fortification.  I glued a long, slender piece of flat aluminum to the back of the tin, and that has kept it straight.  While I was gluing, I also glued the hanging wire to the back of the tin.  I put three grommets in the canvas (left, center, right) top and then drilled corresponding holes in the tin (next time I will use a larger drill bit).  It was easy to line all of this up on my cutting mat and then feed the dyed silk ribbon through both holes and tie a simple square knot.  I like how it hangs, and would do this again.

We had company for dinner last evening: simple fare of Lentil Soup, Salad, and Coconut Panna Cotta with Caramel Apples in sauce (yummy!).  I like comfy little weeknight dinners when we can enjoy our guests at our small table.

I've ordered some fabric to make a baby quilt!  (I told you: I'm becoming a total fool about this grandbaby!)  I'm looking forward to a bit of mindless sewing in another couple of weeks.  Quite some time ago, Gerrie wrote about ordering fabric from Luana Rubin, so I thought I'd go visit her first to have a look.  If you're ever needing commercial fabric, Luana is the person to turn to!  I love her website, which even offers a design wall where you can look at swatches of the fabrics you are considering, and see how they work together!  So, I had a great time checking out and ordering fabrics in my jammies, in the comfort of my own home.  The bundle arrived yesterday, and I've gotta say, I did a wonderful job!  Thanks, Luana, for making this experience so easy and full of fun.  Here's some of what I purchased:

Since the baby's gender is a surprise(!), the nursery has pale yellow walls with white trim and chocolate draperies.  The accent color is an olivey/sagey/limey green.  I think these colors will make a great little quilt and I cannot wait for some therapeutic sewing!

PEACE

Perfect solution for the wall hanging.
The meal sounds delcious. I prefer small intimate meals too. I'm not much of a big party person.
I think getting gaga over a grandchild is expected and so much fun!

What a lucky grandbaby! The fabrics are beautiful. I am especially intrigued by the one peeking out at the bottom (brown with circles?) Your dinner sounded so yummy. Have a great day!

Jeannie, If that fabric is the one on the left, those are sort of abstract leaves. I put a lot of leafy fabric together for this.
Thanks

Great finish on your leaf piece. The ribbon ties add a visual weight connection between the metal and the piece itself. Well done.
