just hopping by

Barker and I came across this extraordinary critter while we were walking the other morning.  He was quite large, measuring perhaps three inches long.  It was a coolish day, and I think he was trying to warm himself on the pavement, as he made no effort to move while we examined him, but he was definitely alive and well.   I snapped his pic with my iPhone, as I'm no longer in the habit of carrying my camera on walks.

PEACE

Oh what a beautiful grasshopper. Just like your latest "rusty" dyeings. Like the brown tones.

What a handsome fellow! And a great photo. My mobile phone isn't an iPhone but I'm still constantly pleased and surprised at the quality of the photos it takes. Haven't we come a long way - not only does everyone have a tiny phone in their pocket but we can take good photos on it as well. What next, I wonder?

Handsome? Ha! They are the scourge of the desert! They will come through an area and completely wipe out any vegetation. We have been lucky not to have had an outbreak in 15 years or so. The cats love to chase them and that is very entertaining!
