Settling back in

.........after such a fun weekend, took a bit of self discipline, but then I always love working in the studio!  You may recall the piece below from this post - yikes, was it that long ago????

I had decided to make a table runner out of the fabric, and because I had been careful to note my dye recipes exactly, I was also able to make a dozen cloth napkins to match!  I backed the runner with Eco Felt and wanted to serge a rolled hem around the edges.  I couldn't find any matching thread locally, so went on line to Superior Threads and found three candidates.

I was fairly certain the spool on the right would be the correct one, but I ordered the other two anyway, 'just in case'.  This afternoon I had a chance to serge the rolled hem, and I like how it turned out.  You can see a bit of the edge below.

Now I've decided to make some placemats as well!  I have almost enough white canvas, but will purchase a bit more later this week, and I will also back these with Eco Felt.  I've read online that it launders beautifully, so I will give it a try.  My plan is to just screen the flower image onto the placemats - perhaps  two or three overlapping in various shades of red and orange.

Meanwhile I'm playing around with some of the gifts that Jeannie sent me.

I've used spray gesso to transfer the stencil image onto a piece of rusted Lutradur.  I've added another layer since I took this picture, but I'm going to keep you in suspense for a while because I'm not finished yet.

Last evening our church offered a wonderful Evensong program,  We always enjoy these choral presentations, and last night's was superb!  Afterwards a bunch of us went to a local Japanese restaurant for sushi.  Little did I know that they were going to surprise me!

All of the wait staff came out at the conclusion of dinner singing Happy Birthday and playing musical instruments - plus they supplied us with this wonderful fruit dessert.  I was also given a lovely set of chop sticks and a gift certificate for another meal!  WOW!!!  Thanks everyone!!

PEACE
