A Day in My Life

Seriously, this all began not yesterday, but about a month ago, when we visited our favorite vintage furniture shop in Inman Park, a wonderful little pocket of Atlanta.  History Lesson One: Our home was designed and built by friends of ours: a lovely Dutch couple, and so we feel compelled to furnish it with light woods that have a northern European flavor.  We saw the piece below and were immediately smitten.  It called to us, saying that it belonged in our house, and why were we turning our backs on it?  It haunted me over the next thirty days, calling to me in the early hours of the morning....and you know what a drag that can be!

Yesterday we returned to City Issue and did the negotiations, with Barker's approval, of course.  Today we brought 'her' home.

Lots of reorganizing needed to be done, but I was so eager to make this new piece feel at home, that it really didn't matter.  I came across C's silver baby cup.

That necessitated a text to our daughter, "Do you want the newest CWC to drink from the oldest CWC's cup?".  'Well, yes of course, but he's still nursing, Mom".  Oh, OK.  I'll keep it a while longer.  You've all been there, and if you haven't, prepare yourself!

There were old church directories, thirty years worth of correspondence, birth announcements, obituaries, catalogues from Christmas wish lists dating back to 1990, bank statements from nearly that long ago, and even this:

Good Lord, who are those people and look how young they were!!  YIKES!!!!  But after all was said and done, I had cleaned out three desks and two sideboards, now leaving me with ample space for my new sideboard plus a grandmother's desk for her granddaughter.  It was well worth an afternoon's walk down memory lane.

And for dinner:

stir fried local red onions, peppers, and red string beans over a bed or brown rice; heirloom tomatoes marinated in olive oil and balsamic vinegar; fresh local corn on the cob.

I'm rejoicing that my dear friend Gerrie is now seeing the light ever more clearly, having undergone her first leg of cataract surgery today!  You Go Girl!

PEACE

It is amazing. I always thought you were exaggerating about the results, but it is true. Colors are brighter - I feel as if someone turned up the lights.

Your new sideboard is beautiful. I love the look of natural wood. And speaking of beautiful, whoa! check out that couple there! We have a CVH silver cup like your CWC. Why did the guys get cups? Have a wonderful weekend.

Well done, Gerrie!
Your new sideboard is really beautiful, and what fun you've had sorting things out. The silver cup is very elegant and has a wonderful patina. What a handsome pair you and C make, then as now.
See my blog for photos of Lake Eyre trip. It was fabulous. xx

What a lovely picture/portrait of you and Craig. When I first saw it, I thought it was new taken ;-)

That "walk down memory lane" I did last year before our move, back then I found a lot of things that I'd forgotten that we even had. A lot of rubbish and a lot of memories =)
