I've been doing some very potato chip knitting lately:
the Taos Chunky Vest designed by Rosemary Drysdale.
The pattern calls for four different color ways of
Taos Stacy Charles yarn
and is knit in alternating bands of stockinette and seed stitch.
Just when I begin to get bored,
it's time to either switch yarns or stitch patterns.
Here's how it looks finished:
It's been a very different Mother's Day for me.
First off, I totally forgot what day it was
until Kristin and Charlie called to do Face Time on our iPhones.
That was a really nice way to start the day!!!
This is my first Mother's Day without my Mom
I thought it was going to be difficult and I wasn't looking forward to it.
Mom would have turned 95 last Friday,
and in many respects that day was more difficult.
My friend Sheila reminded me that I'm in a new phase of celebration:
I'm no longer the daughter but now the Mom and GrandMom.
I treasure our daughter and our relationship;
and after a week of really bonding with Charlie,
I love him even more than I did before,
which I had previously thought was more than anyone could love!
a few cherished 'mother' photos:
a wonderful old picture of Kristin with Charlie, as an infant
Charlie and me in the park last week, visiting the geese
Charlie helping me vacuum
Charlie with my Mom last Father's Day
a school picture of my Mom
While I miss her, I'm putting things in perspective
and focusing on the 61 wonderful years we had together.
Hope you've had a great day too!
peace

Charlie looks like you and you look like your Mom! What a lovely family, Judy. A beautiful post, very touching, and a reminder to me, too, that we are now the Mom and Grandmother to our beloved families.
Those first anniversary days are so hard!! You are very lucky to have had such a wonderful relationship with your Mom. Seeing those pictures of Charlie helping you vacuum remind me so of Matthew - they love their tools and machines!!!
Love seeing the old and not so old pics!! She is always with you!!!
Thank you so much for sharing this...
I still have mine but my DH's wonderful one that I simply called mamen is still so missed. She left for a better place late in the spring of '98.
Our children had the good fortune of growing up with their paternal grandma just a flight of stairs away.
And they fully know how very lucky they were!
Best regards from Eva Mari in Norway :)
