Nocturnal Leg Cramps & Magnesium

Periodically I have been plagued with those nagging nocturnal leg cramps.
They get so bad that I have to get out of bad and stand on the offending leg
until the cramping ceases.
Two nights ago I barely slept at all due to those monsters occurring
just about every hour - and in BOTH legs simultaneously.
Mind you, I have a banana every morning with my breakfast smoothie,
and I have been drinking quinine, as I heard that that helped.
(Oh and I had also tried the old wive's tail of putting a bar of soap under my bed sheet!
I was desperate!!!)

So, bright and early yesterday morning I messaged my wise friend BJ Reed.
We've known eachother for years through the art quilt arena,
but we have also connected through
BJ is a Vegan and helps others along the Vegan path of life.
I knew she would have some answers for me.
She was on her way out the door,
but she kindly shared that she takes Triple Magnesium for leg cramps.
I did a little research and learned that magnesium can be found in
dark leafy greens, lentils, nuts, and more.
So, I quickly made up a wonderful cold lentil salad
nibbled on five almonds,
and steamed some spinach for dinner.

I'm happy to report that it did the trick!!!

I hope that this will help someone else out there in blog land,
because nocturnal leg cramps are no fun!

Thanks for popping by!

Peace to you and yours!

Thanks for passing on the information about more magnesium for leg cramps. I also have had some very bad ones, especially in the thigh, where it seems as though they will never end, and getting out of be with your leg cramped like that is not easy.

I also eat dried apricots and raisins for leg cramps. They are the pits, aren't they?

Leg cramps are such a dreadful thing and I've had them for years. At the moment I'm taking magnesium capsules but I appreciate your extra advice. I think I'll add Jeannie's apricots and raisins to my diet too.

Leg cramps at night are so awful - the cat doesn't like them either as he normally gets kicked off the bed when they come. Great tip though and I shall certainly try it out.

Glad this worked for you. My memory is that low calcium causes leg cramps. It is a problem I rarely have, but I eat nuts all the time!
