See you in September

It is noticeably cooler here in the morning now! Hooray!! We live down in a "holler" as they say in these parts, so it is even a bit cooler than in town. Thank heavens for small favors. When Barker and I walked the golf course this morning it was 67 and just lovely! I came home all ready to start my day........and began by making a batch of my friend Marian's Granola:

Yummm! It is so good. I like to add hazelnuts, pine nuts, slivered almonds, dried cranberries and sometimes some dried blueberries. It is the best for sure, served with plain lofat yogurt and a drizzle of honey. What more could a body want? Ah well yes, you are right, maybe some fresh berries!!

I added a bunch of compost to one of my patio gardens a few months back, and look what has grown up in amongst my day lilies:

I had toyed with the idea of making this particular raised bed into an herb garden because it is so close to the house, and so easy to tend...very little stooping for this body! Now C and I are thinking of making a mini veggie garden out of it...next Spring, of course. Wellll........maybe this Fall, actually! We bought a lovely little pot of thyme at the Green Market at Piedmont Park last Saturday:
Look at that black soil! So unusual for Georgia, the red clay state! Needless to say, I've ammended this garden's soil to the max.

Across the pool from the 'maters and thyme live my new basil plants, courtesy of our neghbor, Debbie:

If we should get tomatoes on that volunteer plant, I'll have basil to go along! Yumm!!

Here's another view of the garden where the basil resides:

I love my new fence that C and his Habitat House friends constructed this summer. Isn't it great!! The Autumn Joy clematis has grown back, as have the rose bushes. I am slowly but surely spreading mulch all over the garden, and getting the weeds under control. I know I'm about a season late on this task, but with the new fence, I feel that all things are possible!

My Echinacea is still blooming:

can you spot the bee?

In another month or so the finches will be all over that garden, eating as many of the dried Echinacea seeds as they can manage. My garden looks a bit drab, but the birds are happy...and so am I!!!

PEACE
