A Complex Day

A quick update on our kitchen reno: our tilemen have been here all week doing a fabulous job! This is how our new floor looked early this morning, just as they were arriving:

They finished tiling everything including the portion of the floor that extends into our foyer, so we are in fact a house divided tonight: in order to get to the bedroom wing, we must go outside and cross the pool patio. But, as my neighbor Debbie said: "it's for one night."

I had some fabulous studio time this afternoon! It was a lovely, sunny day, with temps in the low 70s, and I was able to get a lot of discharging and dyeing done. Here is a scarf that I've been playing with for about a week now:

You may remember it from this post.........look carefully! It has been discharged, overdyed and discharged once more. I LOVE IT, no ifs, ands, or buts about it!!!

The t-shirt below was one that I had spent a good bit of time last Fall gathering up with basting stitches and then discharging. It looked pretty plain to me, so I came back in today with some discharge paste and really garbaged it up:

The interesting thing to me is how differently various discharges affect the fabric. I think I first discharged this shirt with dishwasher gel, which turned it a brownish tan, and now I have used Thiox, which has turned it more creamy. I've also used Thiox with turquoise dye added to it, which has made it a bluish cream color, adding a whole new dimension!

This last pic is of a silk camisole that I dyed a couple of years ago. At the time, I thought it was lovely, but lately I just shove it back farther and farther into my closet. So, I dragged it out the other day, thinking it was a likely discharge candidate. I've added some ferns and swirls to it:

I think I may overdye it......what do you think?

Hope you've had a glorious day too!

PEACE

Tiles are looking great. I am constantly amazed at your energy. The scarf is really beautiful, I hope you leave it like that. I'm fascinated with the way you keep going back and 'doing' things to pieces, and they come out looking completely different and beautiful. XX

Your tiles are looking very nice, I like the color, but I prefer floors made of wood for my self.

The scarf is great. I love the concentric squares. That's a recurring form in my doodles.

So, tell me about your discharging. I've used bleach, Soft Scrub, and Thiox, but I've never used dishwashing gel. What brand are you using? I also never thought to add turquoise dye to Thiox, but I guess that would work since the turquoise won't discharge. Very cool.
