Mom had her six-month check with her Ophthalmologist this morning so I, her chauffeur, juggled my normal Wednesday schedule a bit, heading out to the gym a couple hours earlier than usual. Sometimes I'm not real pleased about the chauffeur gig, but then I have to stop and remind myself that Mom's nearly 92, won't be around forever, and this is a chance for her to get out of her digs. She is being treated for glaucoma and is exhibiting signs of early Macular Degeneration, so her Doc wants to keep an eye on things, so to speak. When her appointment was over, I suggested we catch lunch out, which excited her to no end. Mom LOVES Red Lobster, and so I go! After our waitress had given us our menus, Mom was quick to share with me that they had a 'special' running until February 15th (she watches more TV than I do), so we jumped on it: she had her all-time favorite: garden salad, fried shrimp, and French fries.
She could only eat seven of the shrimp, as she filled up on her French fries and salad first. It was a fun time out, and I can't stop smiling about our time together. On our drive back to her 'place' she asked me how the stock market was doing today......thank goodness for my iPhone! Mom wants answers NOW!This afternoon brought a couple of delicious hours in the studio: rinsing dyed silks; washing out test fabrics; ironing cottons, rayons and silks; and then frantically trying to clean things up in eager anticipation of another session tomorrow! Thursday is MINE: it is golden: ripe with opportunities and offering a totally, squeaky clean slate! I can't wait!!!

We are snowed in and will be the same tomorrow, at the rate we are going. I have not seen my mother in a few weeks - been sick. Marty loves me to get the stock prices on my iPhone, too. His favorites are on my permanent list.
Your Mom looks so pleased with her plate of shrimp. I love how she beams. Your couch looks like ours, except with cats. It is like when I was little riding in the backseat with my brother - he's on my side, no I'm not ......

I love the photo of your mom. It takes such simple things to please us sometimes. I am glad you got this time with your mom. I am going to see mine in a week and I can hardly wait. She lives in Texas and I am in Oregon. Distance sucks!!! Enjoy!

I can't wait to see what you do tomorrow in your studio. Mine is so cold right now that I can't bear to go there to work so I knit and knit. Tomorrow, though, I go to the big city (Asheville) and talk to the computer people about installing Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro so I can use it with my sewing machine and do some embroidering. I finish with a class at the sewing center and then a trip back up the mountain. This is all contingent on the weather, of course.
You are so lucky to have your Mom and in such good shape at 92. Someday it will be K and you!

Your mother looks great for 92. She looks like she's in her 70's. My dad had macular degeneration that started in his 70's. By the time he died at 93 he could only see blurry forms. The good thing is that it's quite slow to develop. Have fun tomorrow!
How good your mother can still eat such things, I hope I will when I'm old. What a wealth of knowledge and experience they carry. I wish I could ask my mother so many things...
Lovely to see your mother enjoying her prawns & chips (that's the Aussie version). Ask her everything you can think of - I'm constantly thinking of questions I left unasked, really simple things I should know, and that only Mum could answer. Enjoy your day in the studio. What a lovely, lovely day! It's wonderful that you are taking the time to appreciate your mom. Sometimes these precious moments pass us by and we don't realize the richness of the experience until our parents are gone.
