Signed, Sealed, Delivered!

Finally!  I put the finishing touches on "The Key to Centering" this morning....and delivered it to our friends this afternoon.  I'm really pleased with it, and think that they like it a lot as well.  It's the biggest piece I've ever done (36" x 72"), and I used many different techniques. The fabric is silk crepe de chine, which I initially dyed using the pole-wrapped Shibori technique.  There are many layers of discharge and screen printing, using textile paints.  The final layer is gold leafed.

Here's a little closer view:

I was on a real high when I finished, so I decided to head out to my dye studio to do some screen printing on another piece that I've been playing with over the past couple of months.  I had an armful of stuff, and when I got out there, I realized that I'd forgotten something, so I ran back to the house to get it.  When I opened the studio door again, this is what greeted me:

Don't know if he was there when I first came in, but there he was the second time!  YIKES!  I started screaming and then got on my cell and called C.  He came dashing out, got a hoe, which the snake did not respond to, so then I got a rake.  We finally got him outside and relocated him to the woods.  I really hope that his time in my studio was so unpleasant that he will love his new home in the woods....and won't come slithering back inside to visit with me!  I know that he was not a harmful snake and that snakes do serve a good purpose, but they just make me crazy....and I can't have them around me.

Hope you've had a great week: no snakes and lots of creativity!

PEACE

Yikes - can you hear me screaming in Portland. This is the one thing I hated about NC!!

Wow, this piece is gorgeous, but I want to click and see a closeup view. I need someone standing next to it so I can see the scale!! I love the shiboried background.

I'm not surprised you were freaked out - he's rather large! We've had them in the garden but not indoors. Ours are very poisonous though.
Congrats on finishing your hanging - it looks wonderful. I'd like to see a closer view too.

I'll try to get some closer views for you.....and perhaps one shot with someone standing next to the piece. It is roughly six feet tall, if that helps.

As for the snake- yuck is right. Can't stand the things.

OMG! That snake would certainly get one's attention. I enjoy seeing them on my walk along the river - where they belong!!! Perhaps it is your new muse??? Key to Centering is gorgeous! Beautiful work, Judy. You should be very, very proud. Hugs.

Obviously you've done a great job with that wallhanger; the photo just doesn't give much info, to be honest... And you've been very brave about that snake. I once had an opportunity to hold a small boa in my hand, and I loved it. They are warm (if the surrounding is), they are dry. If not poisonous, they are cute. I'd like to keep one if they could be fed on veggies.

The wall hanging is gorgeous! But a snake in the studio? How will that affect productivity? It certainly wouldn't help mine. At least it wasn't a dangerous one.

Love the new piece Judy. Well done! No snakes at all in New Zealand, except for zoos and the like. Thank goodness for that!

Key to Centering is beautiful. Snake less so, though I agree with Eva about snakes in general - on the whole, they don't want to get involved with humans and they are smooth and silky to the touch. However, if I had one in my studio sink I'd be yelling for help too. Good for you and C for setting him free, and I hope he stays out in the woods.

I like the piece but am really amazed that you had the presence of mind to snap a photo. My brain would have been skittering around in my head. Hate, hate, hate snakes. Totally irrational I know, but I do.

The Key to Centering and the snake called for 2 seperate posts...I was trying to focus on the hanging and then the snake, now I'm totally uncentered!!

Judy this wall hanging is gorgeous! As soon as I saw it I thought of my Mum. She loved art in this style.
As for that snake.... I would have run screaming! I'm not a big fan of creatures that slither or scamper about. Yuck.

Peace!
