SPLAT!

I've been having a terrific time playing around with some dyes!  Sometimes if the spirit doesn't move me, I just take myself to the studio to see what will happen...and then life is immediately good!

While trying to master Continental knitting (which, by the way, is no easy task for someone with an incredibly lazy left hand) I've been treating myself to some dvd watching. The latest treasure has been Vibrant Color, the soy wax tutorial by Jane Dunnewold and Lisa Kerpoe.  I loved the idea of adding dye powder to melted soy wax and then painting with the mixture.  So since my left hand was far less than cooperative with the new knitting venture, I tried both hands with the wax and dye.  I used a scrap of crepe de chine and mixed up just small batches (1/4 cup of soy wax: approximately 1 tsp of dye powder) of wax.  Here it is before steaming:

I steamed the piece for about 30 minutes and here's the result:

pretty vibrant color, huh?  So I think I'll be doing a bit more of this!

If you knit and like me, you're a thrower, and you'd like to try your hands at continental knitting, you can find a nice YouTube tutorial here.

Carrollton, GA: here they come!  Our little grandson and his parents are moving to Carrollton, GA!  YIKES!!  They will be farther away from us and we are sad about that, but it is a good move up the ladder for our daughter.   Carrollton is a cute little town, and their stay there will only be for a few years.  So, tomorrow we will be spending the afternoon with darling Charlie while his folks look for a new home!  If you have some inside info on Carrollton that you'd like to share with me, please do be in touch, as I'd love to learn more.

PEACE

I have the dvd, the wax, etc. It is on my list of things I have purchased and not used!!

Congrats to K, but too bad Charlie is moving further from you. At least he is still in the same state.

Poor you and Craig, so far away from little Charlie.
If you move to Atlanta it won't be so far ;-)

The experiment turned out pretty. I love the freedom in the flowers. I drove myself nuts this fall trying the continental, maybe this video will help. Carrollton sounds like a wonderful town to raise Charlie in. Perhaps you could all move to the west coast? LOL!

I'm not sure I see the point of adding the dye to the wax unless you are leaving it in as a resist.
However, it looks pretty.

Sorry your baby is moving away: how long a drive? It will be worth it.

Soy wax and dyes sounds (and looks) interesting. But I am sorry to hear the family are moving further away. You'll just have to have some holidays there. Well done to K, though! xo

Hi Judy,

Hang in there with the continental because once you get it you might like it. I switch back and forth between that and English and that helps keep my hands from getting fatigued. I plan to try the soy/dye this week. I am finally in gear to get going again.
