Deconstructing Napa

A week or so ago I purchased some Napa cabbage for a salad I was planning to serve for dinner that evening.  Well, the outer leaves didn't look too appealing for dinner, but I thought they'd be great for monoprinting.  While I was at it, I decided to prepare a couple of screens in order to do some deconstructed screen printing.
Voila!

I'm very pleased with how this piece is working out.  As I was printing the screens, I thought that some of the cabbage leaves looked like Caladium leaves - you know the ones I mean: just the white with a bit of green on them.  Then all of a sudden, a bit of red started showing up on my leaves

I like it when things like that happen in my studio!  We have so little control when we do a process like deconstructed screen printing, and then when a bit of unexpected red dye appears, I realize how very little control I have at all!

I've done this screening on some stretchy silk charmeuse....can't wait to see how it looks after it's been laundered!

While we were walking on the golf course early this morning, I came across these little beauties

They almost look like little charcoal colored pansies, don't they?

PEACE

How little control we ahve indeed! But, somehow in the creative process it feels a bit "better"...I love the cabbage experiments..
