Forty One!

Remember this yarn that I dyed last month with Dr Sock?


Well, she came by for a little house call yesterday......there were several ailing patients here, so I had the pleasure of my dear friend's company for quite some time! She really straightened me, I mean her patients, out!

We had to really put in some time on the pattern that I had decided to knit. It is called "Friday Harbor" and it is in Nancy Bush's "Knitting on the Road" sock book. I love the pattern, but I was also drawn particularly to the name, as it brings back so many wonderful memories of my time in Coupeville with Gerrie, and then on to the Olympic Peninsula with C. The light is poor in this picture, but I hope you can see a bit of the pattern in either my sock, or the picture in Nancy's book.



I cannot wait to get these socks finished, as the yarn is just perfect!!!

In between other "activities of daily living", I've been trying to figure out our Christmas Card design for 2008. Here are just a few of the candidates:

I had one particular design all worked out a year ago, and I had even started painting the silk. I was so relieved to have the major decision over with, and had planned to finish the card construction during the summer. But you know how that goes! LOL So, here we are barely two weeks until Christmas and I've changed my mind and started all over again! Fickle!!!

Forty Four!

Beets Me!!!!

Well, it doesn't really beat me, as I'm celebrating because we only have to endure another 44 days of W!!! WooHoo!!!

Speaking of beets, I was fixing dinner tonight and wanted to try a new recipe for, you got it: BEETS!

While I was cutting them up, I thought that their lovely ruby colored juice might make a nice design, so I ran off to my sewing room, grabbed a pad of watercolor paper and stamped this:

They almost look like roses, don't they? I don't know what I'll do with the paper, but it gives me joy, and that is enough.

Here are the beets when they were finished:

They were yummy and, of course, they are oh so very good for the body! The only beets my mother ever prepared were pickled, from my paternal grandmother's recipe box, but I've grown to love warm, roasted beets in the winter time, thanks to my old friend Jane.

I'm working on creating our Christmas cards....and not a moment too soon! A year ago, I began painting some silk for this years cards, but alas, the desing isn't as I had hoped it would be. Either I'm fickle or the design just doesn't work, I'm not sure which. Anyway, I'm onto something much simpler, but I like it!

Last night we 'rewatched' "The Piano" on Roku, and tonight we are rewatching "Empire of the Sun". We have always been haunted by the music, and the story seems even more poignant this time around. Life is so hard.
