Well, it doesn't really beat me, as I'm celebrating because we only have to endure another 44 days of W!!! WooHoo!!!
Speaking of beets, I was fixing dinner tonight and wanted to try a new recipe for, you got it: BEETS!
While I was cutting them up, I thought that their lovely ruby colored juice might make a nice design, so I ran off to my sewing room, grabbed a pad of watercolor paper and stamped this:
They almost look like roses, don't they? I don't know what I'll do with the paper, but it gives me joy, and that is enough.
Here are the beets when they were finished:
They were yummy and, of course, they are oh so very good for the body! The only beets my mother ever prepared were pickled, from my paternal grandmother's recipe box, but I've grown to love warm, roasted beets in the winter time, thanks to my old friend Jane.
I'm working on creating our Christmas cards....and not a moment too soon! A year ago, I began painting some silk for this years cards, but alas, the desing isn't as I had hoped it would be. Either I'm fickle or the design just doesn't work, I'm not sure which. Anyway, I'm onto something much simpler, but I like it!
Last night we 'rewatched' "The Piano" on Roku, and tonight we are rewatching "Empire of the Sun". We have always been haunted by the music, and the story seems even more poignant this time around. Life is so hard.

I haven't had beets in a long time...I use to put them in a spinach salad with blue cheese and walnuts...ummm, they do look good.

I lo√e, love roasted beets. So easy and Mr C doesn't like them - all the more for me.
And now it is 43!!
The beet paper is lovely!
Beets remind me of the borschtsch soup my mother made. So difficult the name, so easy the recipe. It was a soup out of beef, long cooked, then she added potatoes (not too much), white cabbage, onions, red beet and a carrot. This was cooked until the soup had this beautiful dark red colour, and a spoonful of sour cream was added, when served.
